You can renew a Punjab driving licence online through Dastak, the Government of Punjab's one-window portal for public services. The old DLIMS website now sends every licence service to Dastak, and your previous DLIMS records can be linked to your new account.
This guide walks through the whole process with screenshots of the official portal, the official fee and fine table, and fixes for the problems people run into most.
Before you start: what you need
| Document | Original or copy | When it's needed |
|---|---|---|
| CNIC of the applicant | Original | Always |
| Live photograph, white background (upper shoulders) | Original | Always |
| Old driving licence | Original | Always (if lost, see below) |
| Medical certificate | Original | If you are over 50 or renewing an LTV licence |
| FIR copy | Photocopy | Only if the original licence was lost |

The older DLIMS site adds that the medical certificate for over-50s must be signed by a government doctor. Keep scans or clear phone photos of each document ready before you begin: uploads should be clear and in a standard format such as JPEG or PDF.
Step 1: Create your Dastak account
Go to dastak.punjab.gov.pk and click Register as Applicant. Enter your mobile number, your 13-digit CNIC (format XXXXX-XXXXXXX-X), your email address and a password. Use a mobile number that is registered on your own CNIC, because codes and updates are sent to it. Not sure which numbers are in your name? Check the SIMs on your CNIC first.

Already used DLIMS before? After you sign in, Dastak lets you link your existing DLIMS account, so your earlier applications and records move across automatically.
Step 2: Choose "Renewal of Regular License"
Open Services, keep the Citizen tab selected, and expand DLIMS Services. You will see six licence services. Pick Renewal of Regular License. (Learner permits have their own renewal option.)

Step 3: Pick self service or doorstep service
Dastak offers two ways to apply:
- Self Service: you apply online and collect the final documents from the relevant office in person.
- Doorstep Service: a Dastak facilitator collects documents from your home and delivers them back. Doorstep requests are made through the Dastak Citizen App.

Step 4: Fill in the form and upload documents
Choose the licence category you are renewing (for example motorcycle, car/jeep or LTV) and the validity period. Dastak allows 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 years at most. Upload your photo, CNIC and old licence, plus the medical certificate or FIR if they apply to you.
Tip: your name and CNIC number must match NADRA's records exactly. If your CNIC has expired, renew it first through NADRA's Pak-ID, or the application can be held up.
Step 5: Pay through the PSID
After you submit, the system generates a PSID (payment slip ID). Pay it through internet banking, mobile banking, ATMs or the ePay Punjab app. It works much like paying a utility bill online: open bill payments in your banking app, choose the PSID or ePay option, and enter the number. Payment is confirmed automatically, and you can follow your application on your dashboard.
Step 6: Get your new licence
Track progress in your account. With self service you collect the licence from the office; with doorstep service it is delivered to you. The fee schedule includes a Rs 480 courier fee for the card.

Source: Dastak fee structure, checked 7 November 2026. Dastak adds a Rs 15 platform fee per application. Government fees can be revised, so confirm on the fee page before you pay.
How to read it:
- The renewal fee is listed for one year. Dastak's licence fee schedule notes that its fees apply for one year, and you can choose up to five years.
- If you hold more than one category (for example motorcycle + car), you pay the fee of the highest category, not both.
- Fines grow the longer you wait: half the yearly fee if you are 1 to 3 months late, the full yearly fee between 3 months and a year, and two and a half times the yearly fee at one year.
- Lost licence? If the original licence isn't available, Dastak adds the duplicate licence fee to the renewal.
Worked example: car licence, 2 months late, 1 year
Renewal fee Rs 1,350 + late fine Rs 675 + courier Rs 480 + platform fee Rs 15 = Rs 2,520. Renewing on time would have cost Rs 1,845.
Common problems and how to fix them
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| "I had a DLIMS account and can't log in" | DLIMS has moved. Create a Dastak account, then use Link existing account to bring your DLIMS records across. |
| Photo rejected | Retake it on a plain white background, shoulders up, good light, no filters. |
| Over 50 and no medical certificate | Get a medical certificate signed by a government doctor before applying. |
| Licence lost | File an FIR at your police station, upload a copy, and expect the duplicate fee to be added. |
| Licence issued outside Punjab | This process covers Punjab-issued licences. Licences from Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa or Islamabad are renewed through those authorities. |
| Not receiving the code on your phone | Make sure the number is registered on your CNIC: check your SIMs on 668. |
| Need help | Dastak support: 1202 or [email protected]. DLIMS queries: 042-99202892 or [email protected]. |
After renewal: check your licence and fines
- Make sure your renewed licence shows correctly with a driving licence verification check.
- Clear any unpaid traffic fines first: see how to check and pay an e-challan in Punjab.
- Selling or buying a car? Run a vehicle registration check.
Our take
Renewing online through Dastak is genuinely quicker than queueing at a licensing centre, and doorstep delivery means many people never need to visit an office. The two things that cause most delays are photo rejections and missing medical certificates for over-50s, so get those right before you start, and renew before the expiry date to avoid fines that can reach two and a half times the fee.
