K2 in numbers
K2 sits on the border between Pakistan and China, in the Karakoram range. It was first climbed on 31 July 1954 by an Italian expedition. It is widely considered harder to climb than Mount Everest.
Why climbers come to Pakistan
The Karakoram has one of the highest concentrations of tall peaks anywhere. Every summer, expeditions from around the world travel through Skardu to reach base camps.
